Docker Distributed System Summit videos & podcast episodes

Following LinuxCon Europe in Berlin last week, we organized a first of its kind Docker event called Docker Distributed Systems Summit. This two day event was an opportunity for core Docker engineers and Docker experts from the Docker community to learn, collaborate, problem-solve and hack around the next generation of distributed systems in areas such as orchestration, networking, security and storage.

More specifically, the goal of the summit was to dive deep into Docker’s infrastructure plumbing tools and internals: SwarmKit, InfraKit, Hyperkit, Notary, libnetwork, IPVS, Raft, TUF and provide attendees with the working knowledge of how to leverage these tools while building their own systems.
We’re happy to share with you all the videos recordings, slides and audio files available as episodes!

New Dockercast episode with Mano Marks from Docker

In case you missed it, we launched , the official Docker Podcast last month including all the DockerCon 2016 sessions available as podcast episodes.
In this podcast, we meet Mano Marks, Director of Developer Relations at Docker.  Mano catches us up on a lot of the new cool things that are going on with Docker.  We get into the new Docker 1.12 engine/swarm built-in orchestration. We also talk about some cool stuff that is happening with Docker and Windows as well as Raspberry Pi and Docker.
You can find the latest Dockercast episodes on the Itunes Store or via the SoundCloud RSS feed.

New Dockercast Episode with Docker Captain, Nirmal Mehta

In case you missed it, we recently launched , the official Docker Podcast including all the DockerCon 2016 sessions available as podcast episodes.

In this podcast I catch up with Nirmal Mehta at Booz Allen Hamilton.  Nirmal has been a big part of the Docker community and is also a Docker Captain.
Nirmal works with some large government organizations and we discussed why these types of institutions seemed to be early adopters of Docker.  As most would answer, speed was an obvious driver, however, we discuss that security was also an early driver.  Turns out due to tighter boundaries of Docker containers some of these organizations felt that the potential security opportunities stretched better than virtualization.  We discuss these ideas as well as what is it like to be a Docker Captain.

New Dockercast episode with Avi Cavale from Shippable

In case you missed it, we launched , the official Docker Podcast earlier this month including all the DockerCon 2016 sessions available as podcast episodes.

In this podcast episode, we catch up with Avi Cavale the Co-founder & CEO at Shippable. We start off with a conversation where I ask him why he thinks there has been such an explosion of Docker adoption.  This leads us into the the ideas behind immutable infrastructure and immutable delivery models. Avi discusses how Shippable has focused on making the delivery pipeline easier for developers.
We also discuss some anti-patterns he calls Frankenstein Continuous Integration (CI) where, although Jenkins is awesome, the glue to put a robust CI system together can be reasonably complex. What Shippable tried to do is abstract away some of those complexities for developers.  We end up talking about different Docker patterns Shippable is seeing in the industry.

New Dockercast episode with Ilan Rabinovitch from Datadog

In case you missed it, we launched , the official Docker Podcast earlier this month including all the DockerCon 2016 sessions available as podcast episodes.

In this podcast we talk to Ilan Rabinovitch the Director of Technical Community at Datadog.  I first met Ilan back at SCALE8X (Southern California Linux Expo) 6 years ago.  Ilan has been running SCALE since it’s inception.
As Ilan points out in the podcast, our very own Jérôme Petazzoni packed the house back at SCALE11x (2013).  At Datadog Ilan has been working with the Docker community on monitoring containers and developing what Datadog calls their Monitoring-as-a-Service offering that combines Docker metadata and Docker container monitoring information.  Ilan discusses some of the differences of monitoring containers versus virtual machines. We also talk about Datadog’s adoption surveys highlighting the unprecedented  “wildfire” adoption of technology unseen since Linux and Apache.  Hope you enjoy our conversation.

Introducing Dockercast – the Docker Podcast

Today, we’re thrilled to introduce the official Podcast. The Docker and container ecosystem is moving fast and it can be hard to catch up with the latest projects or features. Podcasts is an efficient medium for getting up to the speed with the latest news from the ecosystem on-demand. Now you can catch up wherever you are by playing or downloading Docker podcast episodes directly to your phone, laptop or tablet.

In case you missed it, all the DockerCon sessions have been published on our Youtube Channel last month. However, we realize that not everyone has time to watch dozens of hours of video content and as a result we’re happy to announce that all DockerCon sessions are now available as podcast episodes!

Going forward this Dockercast will cover a wide range of topics including products, projects and contributions from active community members and partners with our host, Docker’s very own &8211;  John Willis. John is very familiar with how to run podcasts given that he started his own DevOps Café podcast with Damon Edwards back in 2010!
John Willis (@botchagalupe) is the Director of Ecosystem development for Docker, which he joined after the company he co-founded (SocketPlane, which focused on SDN for containers) was acquired by Docker in March 2015.
You can find the latest Dockercast episodes on the Itunes Store or via the SoundCloud RSS feed.
