Twitter is preparing to shut down Vine, the company announced today.
The dissolution marks the ignoble end of a long, painful decline for Vine, which emerged as one of the most creative spaces on the internet following its debut in 2013. Vine's six second looping format was embraced by a talented group of creators who regularly posted fun, original work on the app.
These creators developed a unique form of humor on the app, and compilations of their work on YouTube raked in millions and millions of views:
“Since 2013, millions of people have turned to Vine to laugh at loops and see creativity unfold,” the company said in a Medium post. “Today, we are sharing the news that in the coming months we’ll be discontinuing the mobile app.”
Twitter today also announced layoffs of around 350 people. It&039;s unclear if Vine&039;s entire 50 or so person operation is included within that number. BuzzFeed News reached out to Twitter for comment.
Twitter, according to reports, considered selling the app. But apparently no buyer materialized.

The post Fuel plugins: Getting Started with Tesora DBaaS Enterprise Edition and Mirantis OpenStack appeared first on Mirantis | The Pure Play OpenStack Company.
The Tesora Database as a Service platform is an enterprise-hardened version of Openstack Trove, offering secure private cloud access to the most popular open source and commercial databases through a single consistent interface.
In this guide we will show you how to install Tesora in a Mirantis Openstack environment.
Prerequisites
In order to deploy Tesora DBaaS, you will need a fuel with the Tesora plugin installed. Start by making sure you have:
A Fuel server up and running. (See the Quick Start for instructions if necessary.)
Discovered nodes for controllers, compute and storage
A discovered node for the dedicated node for the Tesora controller.
Now let’s go ahead and add the plugin to Fuel.
Step 1 Adding the Tesora Plugin to Fuel
To add the Tesora plugin to Fuel, follow these steps:
Download the tesora plugin from the Mirantis Plugin page, located at:
https://www.mirantis.com/validated-solution-integrations/fuel-plugins/
Once you have downloaded the plugin, copy the plugin file to your Fuel Server using the scp command, as in:
$scp tesora-dbaas-1.7-1.7.7-1.noarch.rpm root@[fuel s:/tmp
After copying the Fuel Plugin to the fuel server, add it to the fuel plugin list. First ssh to the Fuel server:
$ssh root@[fuel server ipi]
Next, add the plugin to Fuel:
[root@fuel ~]# fuel plugins –install tesora-dbaas-1.7-1.7.7-1.noarch.rpm
Finally, verify that the plugin has been added to Fuel:
[root@fuel ~]# fuel plugins
id | name | version | package_version
—|————————–|———|—————-
1 | fuel-plugin-tesora-dbaas | 1.7.7 | 4.0.0
If the plugin was successfully added, you should see it listed in the output.
Step 2 Add Tesora DBaaS to an Openstack Environment
From here, it&8217;s a matter of creating an OpenStack cluster that uses the new plugin. You can do that by following these steps:
Connect to the Fuel UI and log in with the admin credentials using your browser.
Create a new Openstack environment. Follow the prompts and either leave the defaults or alter them to suit your environment.
Before adding new nodes, enter the environment and select the settings tab and then other on the left hand side of the window.
Select Tesora DBaaS Platform and enter the username and password supplied to you by Tesora. The username and password will be used to download the Database images provided by Tesora to the Tesora DBaaS controller. Finish by typing “I Agree” to show that you agree to the Terms of Use and click Save Settings.
Now create your Environment by assign nodes to the roles for
Compute
Storage
Controller
Tesora DBaaS Controller
As shown in the image below:
After you have finished adding the roles go ahead and deploy the environment.
Step 3 Importing the Database image files to the Tesora DBaaS Controller
Once the environment is built, it&8217;s time to import the database images.
From the Fuel Server, SSH to the Tesora DBaaS controller server. You can find the IP address of the Tesora DBaaS controller by entering the following command:
[root@fuel ~]# sudo fuel node list | grep tesora
9 | ready | Untitled (61:ef) | 4 | 10.20.0.6 | 08:00:27:a3:61:ef | tesora-dbaas | | True | 4
After identifying the IP address you will need to ssh to the fuel server:
[root@fuel ~]# sudo ssh root@10.20.0.6
Warning: Permanently added ‘10.20.0.6’ (ECDSA) to the list of known hosts.
Welcome to Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.13.0-93-generic x86_64)
* Documentation: https://help.ubuntu.com/
Last login: Wed Aug 10 23:51:29 2016 from 10.20.0.2
Next load the the pre-built Database images. After logging into the DBaaS Controller, change your working directory to /opt/tesora/dbaas/bin:
root@node-9:~# cd /opt/tesora/dbaas/bin
Now export your tesora variables:
root@node-9:/opt/tesora/dbaas/bin# source openrc.sh
After setting your variables, you can now import your database images with the following command:
root@node-9:/opt/tesora/dbaas/bin# ./add-datastore.sh mysql 5.6
Installing guest ‘tesora-ubuntu-trusty-mysql-5.6-EE-1.7′
Above is an example of loading mysql version 5.6. The format of the command is:
add-datastore.sh DBtype version
To get a list of Database that are available and version please see the link below:
https://tesoradocs.atlassian.net/wiki/display/EE17CE16/Import+Datastore
Once you have imported your Database images, it&8217;s time to go to Horizon.
Step 4 Create and Access a Database Instance
Now you can go ahead and create the actual database. Log into your Horizon dashboard from within Fuel. On the lefthand side, click Tesora Databases.
From here, you have the following options:
Instances: This option enables you to create, delete and display any database instances that are current running.
Clusters: This option enables you to create and manage a cluster Database environment.
Backups: Create or view backups of any current running Database Images.
Datastores: List all Databases that have been imported
Configuration Groups: This option enables you to manage database configuration tasks by using configuration groups, which make it possible to set configuration parameters, in bulk, on one or more databases.
At this point Tesora DBaaS should be up and running, enabling you to deploy, configure and manage databases in your environment.

Today marks the release of Microsoft BizTalk Server 2016. This is an important milestone that not only reinforces strong on-premises application integration capabilities, but also provides flexibility and control to our customers to adopt cloud applications as and when it makes sense for the business. We realize that every company is undergoing digital transformation with the proliferation of applications, data and services. Whether your applications run in the cloud or on-premises, you should have the flexibility to seamlessly connect applications, unlock data and automate business process anywhere.
Earlier this year, I shared our commitment to build a comprehensive hybrid integration platform. Today, Microsoft is the only vendor that provides a truly hybrid integration platform, offering a consistent experience to our customers and partners whether they are looking to connect on-premises or cloud-native applications. This consistent experience is enabled through Microsoft BizTalk Server and Azure Logic Apps forms the foundation of our vision.
Why upgrade to BizTalk Server 2016?
With BizTalk Server 2016, customers can automate mission critical business processes, leverage support for latest first party platforms and gain newer capabilities within the BizTalk Administration console. With this release, customers also have the flexibility to adopt a hybrid approach in their digital transformation journey by choosing to connect to SaaS applications, or running BizTalk Server on Azure leveraging full support in production environments. Below are some key capabilities that I want to highlight:
Hybrid connectivity: With BizTalk Server 2016, customers can now connect to cloud native applications, web and mobile back end systems, and custom applications through the Azure Logic Apps adapter. This acts as a bridge to rapidly integrate numerous SaaS applications using pre-built, out-of-the box connectors. Azure Logic Apps adapter uses enterprise messaging in the cloud across partners and vendors and leverages the Microsoft Cloud to help you build holistic integration solutions. Customers can now take advantage of Azure Services like Functions, Cognitive Services, Machine Learning and more to gain actionable intelligence on their data and make informed business decisions.

Yesterday, we held a packed webinar on using the Image2Docker tool that prototypes shifting a legacy Windows virtual machine to a Windows Container Dockerfile.
Image2Docker is an open source, community generated powershell module that searches for common components of a Windows Server VM and generates a Dockerfile to match. Originally created by Docker Captain Trevor Sullivan, it is now an open source tool hosted in our GitHub repository. Currently there is discovery of components such IIS, Apache, SQL Server and more. As an input it supports VHD, VHDX, and WIM files. When paired with Microsoft’s Virtual Machine Converter, you can start with pretty much any VM format.
Image2Docker is community supported and designed to show you how easy it is to create Windows Containers from your existing servers. We strongly encourage you to fork it, play with it and contribute pull requests back to the community. Or just install it and use it to generate your own Dockerfiles.
Watch the on-demand webinar to learn more about how to it was built, how to use it and how to contribute.
Here are some of the most popular questions from the sessions with answers.
Is it possible to containerize an application based on an older versions of Windows Server?
Anything you can run on Windows 2016, you can run in Docker, with the exception of anything that requires a GUI. That includes .NET applications, SQL Server, IIS, and all the Windows Server components.
Are there any success stories of people building applications using Docker for Windows Server?
Yes. Tyco has been working with Docker and Windows Server 2016 since Tech Preview and their story is featured here.
Can I run the Windows Server image as a container on a Linux host or any other OS?
For licensing reasons, Windows Server images will currently run on Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 only.

Today, we are excited to announce general availability of the S3 tier of service! The S3 tier of Azure Search is designed to handle large volumes of documents and heavy traffic. Identically priced and backed by the same high performance CPUs and SSD storage, the S3 tier comes in two configurations: S3 and S3 High Density (HD).
S3
The standard S3 tier of Azure Search is suited for customers with large numbers of documents and can handle many hundreds of queries per second. With each partition supporting 120 million documents (or 200 GB), it is possible to search up to 1.4 billion documents (or 2.4TB) in a single search service while still maintaining low latency for high query volumes.
S3 High Density
The S3 HD tier is targeted at ISVs and SaaS providers who build applications which support a large number of relatively small indexes in a single search service. In fact, Microsoft Dynamics 365 has been using Azure Search’s S3 HD tier to power its search experience for thousands of its online customers:
“Dynamics 365 (online) took a huge leap forward and paved the way for significant future search innovation by leveraging Azure Search. Delivering a high level of performance and functionality, the S3 HD SKU makes it straightforward and cost-effective to manage Azure Search for thousands of Dynamics 365 customers.”
– Mike Carter, Principal Program Manager, Dynamics 365
In a single S3 HD service, there can be up to 3,000 indexes which can each support 1 million documents which makes it an attractive option to support numerous smaller applications with many low-cost indexes. You can read more about multitenant applications and Azure Search.
